Designer Vs. Nature

Project Brief

Objective:
Assess the connection between myself as a designer and how design has an effect on nature. Then, after choosing a connection that is relative, design a visual communications piece that effectively communicates the connection message.

Client:
Larry Clarkson, Vis Com classmates, and Myself as an expressive individual

Audience:
Vis Com classmates and patrons of the DOVA department. Eventually Starbucks committee for environmental responsibility.

Message:
Starbucks coffee is currently served in a 10% post consumer fiber cup. I believe Starbucks can make a more environmentally friendly post consumer fiber cup than the one current sold.

Specifications:
Create the entire communication piece using design garbage, or recycled goods once used to disseminate a message. The piece should be at least 12" by 18" in size.

Final piece

Hand-made cup made from recycled Starbucks cups
-Blended pulp with water flour
-Strained and pressed
-Heated and pressed again

Shepard Fairey Poster/Painting

Based on the style of Shepard Fairey I created this painting to illustrate his techniques of layering, pattern, and repetition. Painting is on canvas 22" by 28" using acrylic spray paint.

Jessica Hische Lecture

I attended the Jessica Hische lecture at Utah Valley University on Thursday. She inspired me to work more with serif and script typefaces as well as developing more of my own lettering. I plan to use a similar style to her Barnes and Noble classics remakes on a cover for a hand made book I am currently making.
